Can-Ryu Jiu-jitsu: Self-Defense Martial Arts in Ottawa/Nepean

If you were suddenly physically attacked or pounced upon, how would you react?

If your child were to come home beaten up, afraid and discouraged, how would you react?

Self-defense and self-protection is as much mental as it is physical. Unfortunately, many martial arts schools fail to teach the range of mental and physical skills required to defend yourself against a physical attack or assault.

An attack can happen in an instant. As fast as a cobra strike or catching a fly in flight. There may be a single assailant or multiple attackers.

At the Hiscoe School of Jiu-Jitsu, we teach total awareness, which means recognizing the early warning signs of an attack or potential danger including pinpointing additional dangers like concealed weapons, extra attackers, and environmental hazards.

It also means learning how to use objects in your immediate environment, parked cars, your bike, trees, items on your person, etc. as tools of self-defense or "weapons of opportunity."

You'll learn an arsenal of physical techniques for self-defense that include gross motor strikes, hold escapes techniques, breakfalls, throws and takedowns, grappling, joint locks and controlling techniques, defensive techniques against punching, kicking and weapons attacks.

Can-Ryu Jiu-jitsu is a system of martial arts that wipes out differences in size, weight, height and reach, evening the odds and making it accessible to both genders, no matter their size. It's also great for building self-confidence, nurturing self-esteem and developing character and of course, physical fitness.

There is a family atmosphere in our school, and parents are encouraged to support the progress of their offspring. We encourage parents to take classes along with their teens. The quality time spent together training in Jiu-jitsu has proven to be tremendously beneficial in having a long-lasting bonding effect.
